Bio | Jane Halloran Ryan is a professional genealogist and researcher living in County Clare. Jane has a Certificate in History of Family & Genealogical Research Methods from the University of Limerick. She also completed a Masters in Local History at University of Limerick in 2016. Her M.A. Thesis was entitled ” Agrarian Outrages in the Parish of Tulla, County Clare 1850-1894″. She is currently a third year PhD research student at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick. Her thesis is entitled “Networks of Necessity: The Clunes, Clare and Connecticut Connections”. This thesis looks at the settlement of one family from a particular townland in County Clare and their re-settlement in Norwalk, Connecticut through the lens of successive generations. Jane has recently been awarded a Hibernian Research Award grant from the Cushwa Center at University of Notre Dame for her research on the Norwalk Catholic Club.  Jane’s historical interests are within the 19th century period in Ireland as well as the diaspora networks between Ireland and the United States, the role that Irish women have played in emigration and the role of local fraternal organisations for the emigrant community. Jane has always had a keen interest in genealogy and family history from an early age and she has been researching her family history for many years. She has also assisted numerous diaspora and local individuals with family history projects, house histories and genealogy research as a volunteer with the Ireland Reaching Out Programme. She is part of the local Tulla Reaching Out Heritage group who have undertaken research projects, local historical events and who publish an annual book “Reflections from Home and Abroad”.  Jane was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2013 on behalf of Ireland Reaching Out for her efforts on behalf of the local community and in conjunction with the local Tulla committee in reaching out to the diaspora.  While with Ireland Reaching Out Programme, Jane created and presented the Creating Connections series which can be viewed on YouTube.  These seminars were given to all members and covered various aspects of genealogy research in Ireland. Jane is the current Chairperson of the Clare Roots Society, a local family history and genealogy group that meets monthly and hosts lectures via Zoom and i person. The group was founded in 2006 and has a number of publications undertaken. Jane recently published the book “Clooney Graveyards” with the assistance of the society in 2021. Jane is a member of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists (CSG), the Law Society of Ireland, the Irish Genealogical Research Society (IGRS) and the Association of Professional Genealogists (USA) |
