Historians and the Media – Workshop

Details: The IAPH’s first training event will be a workshop designed for those who want to improve their performance on broadcast media. It will also benefit contributors to panel discussions, and those who speak at public events and conferences. Skills professionals will advise on how to relay research in a clear and succinct way. The practicalities of preparation, from liaising with producers to considering your audience, as well as dealing with nerves, will also be addressed. Media personnel and historians will discuss what makes a good guest, sharing their own experiences and answering questions.

Session 1: Short messaging

Michael Comyn

Michael Comyn is a business coach, trainer, broadcaster and producer with international experience of over 28 years of informing, entertaining and energising audiences. He is an accomplished media trainer and coach and helps individuals and organisations formulate their messages for media consumption. Session 2: Preparing for performances

Rowan Manahan

Rowan is the Presenter Mentor, working on professional presentations since 1989. He has contributed to pitches/demos/sales/ profile-building with startups, upstarts, disruptors and established companies; honing their message and working with speakers on their presence and delivery. He is a founding organiser of TEDxDublin events, and works with the majority of the speakers, preparing them for the 2,100-strong audience in the Grand Canal Theatre.
